A new Killer Instinct title is not in development for the Xbox Series X at Iron Galaxy says Keits
That doesn't mean it couldn't be in development elsewhere though
Killer Instinct may have started this generation as a small launch title for the Xbox One, but fans have been absolutely clamoring for a new game in the fighting game series since Season 3 wrapped up in 2016.
With the release of the Xbox Series X later this year, there had been hope that Iron Galaxy was hard at work creating another Killer Instinct title for the rise of the next generation, but that doesn't appear to be the case after all according to one of the studios' designers.
Adam Heart, known better to the fighting game community as Keits, recently took to Twitter at the start of the new decade to give a small update on what Iron Galaxy is working on in 2020.
"I really hope we get to show you what we've been working on in 2020," said Heart on Twitter. "I am in love with it. But we have a lot left to do and it will be ready when it's ready. I just miss sharing the fun we cook up with you all."
This statement of course perked up the ears of the KI community which then began to ask him if it was related to a new Killer Instinct though Keits' response was short and simple — "It is not."
When asked if it had anything to do with fighting games at all, the Iron Galaxy designer also replied in the negative.

The last original title Iron Galaxy put out was the action game Extinction back in 2018 though most of their output in recent years has been in porting other developers' releases to systems like the Nintendo Switch and PC like they did with Overwatch and Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2019 respectively.
Looking at the job openings on Iron Galaxy's website doesn't really give us any better idea of what they're working on though it does appear to be a new, original production by the studio behind Divekick.
For those who don't remember, it was actually Double Helix who developed the initial release and first season of content for 2013's Killer Instinct before the developers were bought out by Amazon for their push into gaming — which hasn't really amounted to much at this point.
Iron Galaxy took over the reigns for Season 2 and 3 along with creating the impressive PC ports which offer cross-platform play with the original Xbox version.
Back in the middle of 2019, the game's online community took to places like Twitter with the hashtag BringBackKI in attempts to get Microsoft's attention to do something more with the Killer Instinct brand whether that be a new game more support for the old though we're still waiting to see any potential fruits born from that.
