Dissidia Final Fantasy NT support coming to an end with one final update in March, no sequel planned

Team Ninja and Square Enix's arena fighting game has seen continued support for almost five years at this point, but Dissidia Final Fantasy will be rapidly winding down over the next month or so.
During a livestream to discuss the game's future, Dissidia director Takeo Kujiraoka revealed that the arena fighter's next update will essentially be its last for both the arcade and console versions.
The original arcade version will be the first to reach its final form with an update coming February 20 though NT players on PlayStation 4 and PC will be seeing the last big patch come on on March 5.
No more characters will be coming with these updates though there will be a new costume for the Emperor and a weapon for Cloud of Darkness which received some new trailers.
Though it won't be receiving any new content, Dissidia's matchmaking and online services will continue on for the foreseeable future. Producer Ichiro Hazama did state, however, that those too will "eventually end" at a later date.
The team also made it quite clear that they aren't stopping to begin work on a new Dissidia title.
"We don't want to make false anticipations, so we want to make it clear that right now there are no plans for a [Dissidia Final Fantasy] 2 at all," said Kujiraoka during the stream according to RPGsite.
Dissidia Final Fantasy first released in Japanese arcades back in 2015 followed by a PS4 port titled NT at the beginning of 2018. Despite seeing initial success in its first form, the console version of Dissidia struggled to ever find a foothold due to its strict 3v3 requirements.
Dissidia NT moved to a free to play model along with its PC release last year, but it feels like Square and Tecmo Koei have not seen enough growth to continue with the game any longer.
Ardyn Izunia from Final Fantasy 15 launched in Dissidia last month and will apparently serve as the title's final new addition following Tifa and Gabranth also being brought back from the previous PSP titles.
