With the official launch of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, fans now have their mitts on the latest DLC character — Street Fighter 4 series boss, Seth. Those who encountered the jack-of-all-trades previously may have noticed that this powerful fighter was redesigned in Street Fighter 5.

Designing a character is always a process, and several ideas are thrown out along the way. Capcom has now shared some of the rejected concepts for Seth in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition.

The first idea focused on an "antique/old-fashioned" theme, seeing Seth with an old-timey dress and hat. Capcom's goal here was to make the first-ever Seth, with the character's arm and leg transforming similar to something seen in a Steampunk book or movie.

Next up is a cross between "Gen's apprentice" and Seth. Apparently, Capcom was looking at designing a character that fits the former, and with this concept created a hybrid that has fans on the back to prevent overheating.

Third in line is a human-like form with the idea that this Seth would continue to evolve over time by "absorbing the DNA of others." This concept is followed by one that was created with Buddhist statues like Kongo Rikishi / Nio statues in mind and has small Tanden Engines for joints.

Here is where things get closer to the final product as this idea combined Street Fighter 4 Seth with the Gen's apprentice concept from earlier. We see some of the attributes that the finished in-game Seth has right here in this piece of art.

Finally, the nearly finalized design can be seen. "When the epidermis expands, the power flow from the Tanden Engine becomes visible. Seth’s hair knot is finalized at this point," reads the blog post.

It is always interesting to see how these ideas evolve over time, and what actually makes it into the game. Seth also has a handful of other looks by way of alternate costumes, and it does appear that some parts of these concepts were used as inspiration.

Seth can be purchased as part of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, the Upgrade Kit, or individually. This new fighter will run you $5.99 USD or 100,000 Fight Money.
