Street Fighter 5 finally crosses the 4 million sales mark in just under 4 years on the market

Now sits as Capcom's 12th best-selling title of all time

When Street Fighter 5 first launched back in early 2016, the game wasn't exactly the sales juggernaut its predecessor once was, but it's continued to climb and reach milestones every year since.

Capcom has now updated their Platinum Titles page to reflect the final quarter of 2019 where it is revealed that Street Fighter 5 has now sold 4.1 million copies as of the end of last year.

This latest boost bumps SF5 up to 12th all-time on Capcom's charts to get just ahead of Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the Super Nintendo — which also sits with 4.1 million copies.

If Capcom's current fighting game continues to sell at its current pace of around 200,000 copies per quarter, Street Fighter 5 will likely crack the top 10 in the coming months since Monster Hunter Generations sits at number nine and 4.3 million copies — the only other fighting game in the top 10 is the original release of SF2 on SNES at number five.

As for the company's other recent fighting game ventures, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite still sits at 1.4 million copies though it actually moved up from 63rd to 60th and is now ahead of Ultra Street Fighter 4 and the downloadable re-release of MvC2.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection also managed to sell an additional 100,000 more copies or so to bump it to 1.1 million — just one space above Mega Man 11.

For some other notable sales, Monster Hunter World is of course still Capcom's best-selling game ever at 14.9 million copies sold, Resident Evil 2's remake jumped up another million to 5.9 and Devil May Cry 5 has reached 3.1 million.

The only new member of the list is Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition at 1.4 million.

Going into this current console generation, Capcom was facing deep financial troubles which necessitated partnerships like exclusivity deals with Sony to make Street Fighter 5 and Microsoft with Dead Rising 3.

That's all turned around in the past two years or so with strong releases in Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7 and the like to lead the company to some of its most profitable years ever.

Street Fighter 5 had a fairly slow start selling around 1.5 million copies in its first year, but it continues to ship strong numbers after four years likely bolstered by steep discounts and the promise of Champion Edition coming this week.
