Combo Breaker has been building the reputation as one of the most beloved fighting game majors in the entire world which has in-turn led to larger and larger attendance records plus better perks and rewards for the players who make the journey to Chicago in May.

Registration for Combo Breaker 2020 opened up just last month on January 14, but the fighting game community was remarkably quick in scooping up every single one of the venue hotel rooms in minutes — even breaking records for the Renaissance Schaumburg itself.

Now, early bird entry has wrapped up for the upcoming major, and event organizer Rick 'The Hadou' Thiher celebrated the occasion by releasing our first look at the registration rankings between the main games with some interesting results thus far.

Rick only revealed the top eight placers of the leaderboard at this time of the 24 official events where Tekken 7 currently sits in the lead even though we don't yet know if it'll even appear on the Tekken World Tour for 2020.

Second place belongs to a fighting game that won't even be available in North America until March with Granblue Fantasy: Versus which isn't too surprising given the new game hype and the fact that CB is part of the Arc World Tour 2020 — even though BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle doesn't rank here yet.

Street Fighter 5 is currently holding down the bronze medal for attendees which is actually the spot it ended up with for Combo Breaker 2019 at 588 entrants — behind Tekken 7 at 609 and Mortal Kombat 11 at 758.

The rest of the spots are made up in order: Under Night In-Birth Exe.Late[cl-r], Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Samurai Shodown and Dragon Ball FighterZ. This lineup is actually fairly consistent from last year aside from DBFZ dropping down a few spots and SamSho which wasn't out yet.

Even though it didn't chart this time, Rick notes that last year's leader MK11, alongside Soul Calibur 6, saw sizable surges in attendees as well and sit just outside top 8.

Combo Breaker 2020 is set to have a whopping 24 official brackets for the likes of its namesake in Killer Instinct, DBFZ, MK11, Melty Blood, SamSho, Smash Ultimate, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Tekken 7, BBTAG, Brawlhalla, Darkstalkers 3, SF5, SC6, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, SSF2T, UNICLR, GGXRD, King of Fighters 14, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, GBVS, Skullgirls, BlazBlue Central Fiction and Breakers Revenge plus the famous mystery game tournament.

Last year, 13 of those brackets reached at least 100 players, so here's hoping the CB crew can reach even larger heights to start off the new decade.

There's still plenty of time to register too since Combo Breaker 2020 isn't scheduled to go down until May 22–24 in Schaumburg, Illinois though Thiher says we'll receive another updates on registration at the start of March.
