Very little is known about the new project right now

Update: Neople's parent company, Nexon, has now released their official press release for the announcement of Dungeon Fighter Duel which reveals some additional details about the upcoming project. You can read the full release added to the original story below.

Arc System Works was already looking quite busy in 2021 where they're set to support Guilty Gear Strive, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Granblue Fantasy: Versus, but it looks like they've added even more to their plate.

During the Dungeon and Fighter Universe Festival in South Korea, Neople announced a new Arc System Works-developed fighting game called Dungeon and Fighter Duel / Dungeon Fighter Duel / DNF Duel.

DNF Duel is a new spin-off title in the Dungeon Fighter Online world which looks to take the beat 'em up-style MMORPG and translate the action into a more traditional 2D fighting game.

Dungeon Fighter Online launched back in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular video games in the world garnering over 700 million lifetime players and grossed over $15 billion as of May 2020.

As for DNF Duel, the game appears to be running on a similar engine to another ArcSys-developed fighting game in Granblue Fantasy: Versus with all of the anime aesthetic flare you expect for the company now.

Instead of using individual characters, DNF Duel appears to use fighters based on the 16 main classes and 60 Advencements found in the MMO with five showing up in the trailer.

The characters so far appear to be using the Advencement version of classes with the Berserker, Ranger, Grappler, Striker and Inquisitor all shown off with gameplay here.

There's little to go on as far as gameplay mechanics specifically, but there appears to be some sort of special cancel or something similar where characters can be seen flashing at various points before performing a move.

Eighting, the former developers of Bloody Roar and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will also be working to help create the game though the scope of their involvement is still not known.

The project is seemingly being helmed by Ryosuke Kodani in the director's chair, who previously worked as a lead planner in Dragon Ball FighterZ, was the assistant director for River City Girls and worked with Arcana Heart 3 prior.

It's unclear just how many fighting game teams Arc System Works operates now considering they have three other ongoing projects, but two of them just being on DLC seasons and Eighting assisting here probably helps lighten the load for the developers.

No platforms or release date was given in the initial trailer, but the previous record of ArcSys fighting games, it'll likely come to PlayStation 4 and PC at the very least.
