Fan asks for vague hint about Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition's new mechanic and receives clip of anime car

Does the D stand for Initial Dan?

Many Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition players were hopeful they'd receive Dan Hibiki and the Season 5 update in time for Christmas, but we know now that won't be happening until after Valentine's Day next year.

That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't some potential clues to try and unwrap this holiday season.

Capcom's Senior Community and eSports Manager Matt 'TheStreetWriter' Edwards recently made a trip down to the company's offices for work reasons before posting that he might stick around "to test out some moves and mechanics."

This of course led to a bunch of comments and questions regarding SF5's upcoming new battle mechanic and what he meant by "moves," but there was one that stood out in particular.

One fan asked Edwards for any vague hints that the community could chew on this holiday season to which the longtime Capcom rep replied with using a GIF of a car racing.

The clip itself appears to be from the Initial D anime as one of the characters looks to be starting to drift, and that's probably as vague as they come.

There's obviously little to go on based on the clip itself, but it does spark the imagination of trying to tie that in somehow to a fighting game.

Guilty Gear Strive's new Roman Cancel that allows characters to move during the stop was initially called Drift Roman Cancel by some fans, but that'd be pretty weird for a game like SF5.

The car also looks like it's accelerating, so maybe something regarding speed or movement is in the cards though it's doubtful Capcom would go the Street Fighter 5 Turbo route.

Perhaps the classic car bonus stage will make a return if we take that tweet quite literally.

Since Edwards is also known a bit for having fun / joking with the community, there's also the strong possibility this could be just a troll post to keep fans talking and guessing until more concrete reveals start coming — or maybe using the GIF as a funny way to escape from the conversation.

All will be revealed most likely during Capcom Cup weekend which is scheduled to take place February 19–21, 2021 when they finally unleash Dan and all of what Season 5 holds.
