Sephiroth revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Sephiroth from Final Fantasy has just been revealed as the latest DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sephiroth is the third of six new additions for Fighters Pass Vol. 2, and will become available to download and play this month.

The news broke during this year's Game Awards presentation as the main antagonist of Final Fantasy 7 was revealed. He joins Cloud Strife, Sephiroth's physical opposite, as the second Final Fantasy figure to join the Smash roster.

We see the iconic baddie manifest his angelic/demonic wing during his reveal trailer, as well as wield his trademark sword: Masamune. Producers kept in step with their clever nods in past Smash Ultimate reveals as they played on one of Final Fantasy's memorable moments during the trailer as Seph stabs at Mario in the same manner and setting as when he impaled Cloud.

Sephiroth is notorious for causing the death of one of Final Fantasy 7's playable characters, Aerith. This was a shocking and iconic moment in video games, which likely helped contribute to him becoming a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The character has also, funnily enough, been in a fighting game before. The 1998 Square-Enix title Ehrgeiz featured Sephiroth along with a few other Final Fantasy mainstays as they engaged in three dimensional combat.

We've nabbed a few screen shot stills from the trailer for you to check out in detail, and you can see the whole thing embedded below thanks to GamersPrey.

It's been a bit over two months since Minecraft's Steve was initially revealed back on October 1, and we happen to be just three days past Ultimate's second birthday (December 7).

You can get your hands on this new fighter either by purchasing them alone for $5.99 or by buying the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 for $29.99. This latter route will also get you Min Min and Steve, the two first DLC characters of Fighters Pass Vol. 2, as well as Sephiroth, the remaining three unidentified challengers, and the six new stages that the pack also includes.
