Eddie rips his own arm off for Zato-1's taunt in Guilty Gear Strive

The animations in this game are filled with so much personality

Guilty Gear is a series often applauded for how much personality it packs in to the games between character designs, models / sprites and animations, but the new entry seems to be cranking the dial up to 10 in those departments.

Arc System Works continues to showcase short and cool little animations or character quirks in Guilty Gear Strive, and the latest takes a look at Zato-1's taunt that has Eddie lose his marbles (and an arm) to take the concept a little too seriously.

The quick clip has the forbidden beast taking over control of Zato to make a humanoid shape before ripping the flesh off of his arm, leaving the skeleton behind though I'm not entirely sure how that works since he's a shadow blob.

Eddie then makes himself laugh by making his now-detached hand form a peace sign and flopping his arms around like a wave until he dissipates.

While it is kinda weird, you can't help but appreciate the level of detail poured into making something most players won't see hardly ever from the way he morphs out of the ground with strands combining and hanging off to his maniacal facial expressions while messing with his opponent.

For comparison, Zato-1 had two taunts in Guilty Gear Xrd. One had Eddie popping up and giving the double thumbs down while the beast comes together as a dead end sign. Both are pretty good, but it's clear how far ArcSys have come in the past seven years.

This isn't the first time we've seen some weirdly morbid yet comical imagery in Strive considering Faust's time over animation has him literally die as his spirit leaves his body.

Guilty Gear Strive is now only four months away from release, as it's scheduled to launch on April 8, 2021 in the West on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.
