Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is undergoing maintenance next week but Capcom isn't saying what the update is for yet
Fighting EX Layer costume number 4 incoming?
Whenever new content comes to Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, you can expect the game servers to go down for maintenance for a few hours, but what happens when we only know about the latter half of that?
Capcom announced last night that they will be taking the SF5 servers offline for up to four hours next week, but they haven't said what the maintenance is going to be for — which has some wondering if the start of Season 5 may be here in just a few days though there may be a better explanation as to what's coming.
The server work itself will take place on December 8 and run from 5–9 p.m. PDT. That's the typical allotment of time for core and content updates, so there's very likely something that's going to be made available after that period.
Of course, the immediate thought is whether or not this is tied into Dan's launch given the timing and lack of information from Capcom.
It would be quite surprising, however, to see them essentially spoil a potential release date through a maintenance notification when they had workarounds in the past like not actually posting about it until after the Capcom Cup 2019 announcements last December.
What's seemingly much more likely right now is potentially a new costume drop considering the past three months have seen new Fighting EX Layer outfits added to the game which matches up well with the timeframe in front of us.
Ryu's Kairi, Karin's Hokuto and Cammy's Blair Dame were all revealed in the first half of their months, and they each released only two days later. The SF5 Server page did also announce the maintenance the previous week with the only big difference is this being earlier than the others.
Maybe Capcom and Arika will show off crossover costume number four on Monday.
If it ends up being neither of these options, another likely event is some stability fixes, as some players have reported issues staying connected to the game's servers following November's update.
Given the full length of the maintenance period, a new update and / or content will be coming to SF5 next week.
It's just probably not time for Dan to show up just yet.
