Fighting EX Layer's new update adds Wi-Fi indicator for ranked matches

Fighting EX Layer continues to truck on in development while adding new features after the game's two-year anniversary including rollback netcode just earlier this month.

Arika have now released the 1.3.3 update for FEXL on both PlayStation 4 and Steam which adds a Wi-Fi indicator for ranked play among other changes.

Like pretty much every other fighting that's added the feature so far, this doesn't filter out opponents using wireless connections, so those players trying to avoid them will now have a confirmation before matches begin.

Funnily enough, the new update comes less than a month after the developers previously said they'd wait to add such an indicator to FEXL until they could see the community reaction to Tekken 7's implementation — which still has yet to happen.

Other changes made to the indie fighting game under Street Fighter 2 designer Akira Nishitani include adding Area to FEXL's Expert Mode for combo trials, adjusting the damage of some attacks which aren't specified and online connection improvements to make things even smoother.

So far, pretty much everything Arika said would be difficult or near impossible for the team they've managed to pull off from the Steam version to implementing rollback netcode that should go to show how dedicated the small team is to improving their vision — even if they don't appear to have any new content like characters in the pipeline for it.

Arika have also discussed testing cross-platform play between PS4 and PC internally though they can't promise it'll actually make its way into Fighting EX Layer which seems to be the next big hurdle fighting game devs will need to conquer after / at the same time as improved netplay.

You can find the full patch note changes below from Arika's Ichiro Mihara.
