Ed Boon suggests NetherRealm is 'not even klose' to being done with Mortal Kombat 11 yet

MK11 will very likely become the studio's longest supported game ever

Since 2011, NetherRealm Studios continued to be super consistent with its video game release schedule of every two years though they appear to be likely breaking that cycle with their current entry.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently suggested his development team is "not even klose" to being finished with Mortal Kombat 11 yet which is supported by what other members of the team said about the game around its launch.

The message came as a response to a fan poking fun at Boon hyping up all of the DC FanDome reveals like WB Montreal's Gotham Knights and Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League instead of MK11 with the head turn meme.

"Ok, that was funny," Boon replied on Twitter. "But we ain't done. Not even klose..."

If this indeed means Mortal Kombat 11 still has quite a bit more DLC in the works, it will make the game NRS's longest supported release ever.

Previously, the developers have released a new fighting game every two years dating back to Mortal Kombat in 2011.

This inclination is further backed up by something senior artist Daanish Syed at NetherRealm said about MK11 right as the base game was about to launch.

When asked if Mortal Kombat 11 would be supported longer than previous releases, Syed replied, "oh it's going to be — by a LOT."

Considering all NetherRealm-developed games have released around April or May of their respectful years, that would assumedly give Mortal Kombat 11 an entire extra year of support, bringing its total to three instead of the average two.

The Warner Bros.-owned studio could also follow in the footsteps of other publishers like Capcom and Bandai Namco, who both are continuing additional content for their flagship titles more than four years after launch.

This extra time could help the game grow and continue to evolve further beyond any other NRS title to this point which may prove great for a community wanting to see more system changes.

Some signs had pointed to Injustice 3 still arriving on the previous schedule with the DC FanDome going on this weekend, as nothing has really panned out from that yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 received the Aftermath expansion earlier this Spring which brought with it three additional characters in Fujin, Sheeva and RoboCop along with a first-ever DLC story mode for the franchise.

It will be interesting to see now if NetherRealm moves away from the traditional Kombat Pack season pass structure going forward by opting for more substantial and immediately complete expansions.

As for now, we seem to be in for at least another year or two of Mortal Kombat 11 content and updates.
