Shanty the pirate goat receives gameplay showcase and breakdown for Them's Fightin' Herds
Do you want to party or parley?
Following the conclusion of the bigGrand Stampede tournament, the developers of Them's Fightin' Herds revealed the identity of their next character, Shanty, with a teaser trailer which they've now greatly expanded upon.
Mane6 held a special developer stream last night to break down the pirate goat's upcoming move set, swashbuckling magic abilities and creation process on their Twitch channel.
Shanty features a command run as a large part of her toolset which can be cancelled into a low, mid or overhead attack as seen in the teaser trailer. She can perform the run backwards as well if someone is trying to rush her down. There's also a special jump she can do out of it which gives the pirate a ton of control in the air along with speed and a slam down attack that reminds me of some of Zeku's options in Street Fighter 5.
Since she's a pirate, Shanty has a unique Parley move where she'll shout out with an exclamation that refills her magic gauge which powers her special run stance. It also has a hitbox on it though we don't get to hear what the shouts will sound like since she's still in development.
Charging it up all the way will make her yell 'yar' of course.
The other big use of her magic gauge allows her to stick to and climb walls which can be followed up with attacks, the command jump or a dive kick.
It's interesting to hear the devs talk specifically about her design process and how they allowed her to basically create a wall from her perspective no matter where she currently is on screen.
Mane6 haven't committed to a public release window yet for Shanty, but they note she's mostly just got animation and testing to go before the goat is in her complete form where they'll give her a proper trailer and lead up to launch.
