Current-gen version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 makes Capcom's Platinum Titles list for the first time

Capcom recently updated their Platinum Titles section over on their investor relations website. We now have the latest sales numbers for their most popular games.

According to the list, Street Fighter 5 has seen an increase in sales of about 200,000. The running total for units sold is now 4.7 million.

This number charts all of the activity of the game up through the end of Q2 — the cut off being June 30, 2020. Street Fighter 5's increase in numbers comes from the three-month span where the COVID-19 pandemic sprung into full effect.

In December 2019, Capcom released the Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition update with DLC character Gill. Seth and the standalone version of Champion Edition followed in February 2020, which very likely contributed to the increase in sales.

Another of Capcom's fighting games continues to sell despite support for it ending back in December 2017 with the release of Venom, Winter Soldier, and Black Widow. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is up another 100k units sold, bringing its total number up to 1.5 million.

Capcom also sees a brand new addition to their Platinum Titles list. The current-gen release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is now at 1 million sold.

The popular title was re-released physically and digitally on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in March 2017, and due to the poor reception of Infinite and no new Versus series game being on the market right now, it's looking like fans are still buying up the fan-favorite fighting title.

This version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is nearing the same mark as the original release of the game back on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which currently sits at 1.2 million since its launch in November 2011. The vanilla version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 outsold all of the aforementioned MvC games, however, with 2.2 million units as of the end of June this year.

Earlier this month, we learned that the Street Fighter series has reached 45 million units sold overall. This is a 1 million increase since last quarter.

Initially, we estimated that Street Fighter 5 was now over 5 million sold, but it looks like contributions by Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Ultra Street Fighter 2, and other Street Fighter titles helped push the overall number.

30th Anniversary Collection is now at 1.4 million units sold (up 200,000 since last quarter), and with Ultra Street Fighter 2 not being one of Capcom's Platinum Titles, it's unclear how much the game has sold since the end of March 2020. Reports say that USF2 cleared 500,000 units sold as of May 2018, giving the game a margin of about 400,000 to increase since then.

It's possible that USF2 sold another 100k - 200k during this last quarter. The remainder of the Street Fighter series sales numbers likely came from games not currently on the Platinum Titles list, as no other games there saw increases.
