Is the PlayStation 4 heavily responsible for people thinking Street Fighter 5's online experience is trash? Thoughts on Ono's departure from Capcom

Playing Street Fighter 5 online has been something of a chore ever since the game first launched back in early 2016 and while Capcom has most certainly made many significant improvements over the last four years, our network play experiences have still been more frustrating than fun... until about a week ago.

Both DreamKing and I had been playing on PlayStation 4 Pro and vanilla PS4, respectively, but recently built our own personal computers. With the transition to PC being the only updated variable, Street Fighter 5 online has begun to feel like playing a whole new game for both of us.

DreamKing joins both Catalyst and me to discuss the particulars of the process. We note some of the most frequently experienced bumps in the road that have been smoothed over, compare and contrast facing each other and delving into ranked play from before and after the upgrade.

What does this mean for our views on Sony's hardware? We were never the most avid fans as we quickly recall ventures in Ultra Street Fighter 4 on the PlayStation 3 being subpar when compared to Xbox 360 equivalents.

In other news, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono recently announced that he's planning to leave the company this summer. The Street Fighter producer is often credited with the revival of the fighting game genre thanks to his push for and execution on Street Fighter 4, but his resume since that time has been rather spotty.

Rumors of early issues with Street Fighter 6's development do seem to line up and account for at least a portion of the motivations behind Ono's departure, and we consider the good and bad of this momentous happening.

Catalyst and I offer opinions and reactions as we speculate as to whether Ono will fully retire or join up with another company, and consider what this all might mean for the Street Fighter franchise moving forward.
