Katsuhiro Harada, Ed Boon, Ryota Niitsuma, and others pay respects to Yoshinori Ono following his resignation announcement
#Shoryuken
Doing a "#Shoryuken" search on Twitter right now will land you countless posts from solemn Street Fighter fans thanking and wishing the best for Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, who announced he'd be leaving the company after more than a quarter century long career.
Whether specifically a Street Fighter fan or not, this news resonates with virtually all members of the fighting game community as Ono played an integral role in the genre's recent golden age thanks to his work at the helm of Street Fighter 4.
Big names from around the FGC like Mortal Kombat's Ed Boon, Tekken's Katsuhiro Harada, Guilty Gear's Takeshi Yamanaka, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Ryota Niitsuma have already started honoring the eccentric developer with nods on social media, and we'd like to continue that momentum by compiling some of these praises and well wishes here for all to see.
"Thank you for everything Ono-san," wrote Harada, Ono's playful FGC rival and long time friend. "See you soon. See you soon Ono-san. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you very much."
Many other figures from around the community have also voiced similar sentiments reflecting on the important contributions Ono has made. Other representatives at Capcom posted messages on some of the company's Twitter pages to add their support.
We suspect many more nods such as these will be appearing as the millions of Street Fighter fans across the globe become aware of the news of Ono's departure, but we'd like to share these initial notes as a representation of how impactful this figure has been.
We at EventHubs would like to add our voice to the bunch and say that we are extremely grateful for all of the positive contributions Ono has made over his nearly three decade long career with one of the most notable fighting game companies on the planet.
It's not lost on us that the Street Fighter IP very well may not have been revived had it not been for this man's efforts, and we countless hours of entertainment to him. Thank you, Ono.
