Hideki Kamiya's comments on which of his characters he wants in Super Smash Bros. points to one of them perhaps already being part of Fighters Pass 2

Hideki Kamiya's legacy as a video game director is among the most impressive in the entire industry from Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry to Okami and Wonderful 101 which has also produced some of the most iconic characters in the medium as well.

GameXplain recently had the opportunity to interview Kamiya and Platinum Games producer Atsushi Inaba to talk about a variety of subjects including the characters they'd most like to see added to Super Smash Bros. — which raised the eyebrows of attentive fans.

Though the question wasn't limited to only their own character creations, both Inaba and Kamiya stuck to them from Platinum and Capcom with the director going a bit further with Okami's Amaterasu being the first.

"You've gotta put [Viewtiful] Joe in there," said Kamiya as translated by GameXplain. "You've gotta put Amaterasu in there and have those be the four. It's like then you could put Leo(?) in there and put Wonder Red in there, but then it would be more my game at that point."

What's interesting is that one of Kamiya's characters is already in Smash Ultimate with Bayonetta, but adding Amaterasu and Viewtiful Joe to the mix only equals three compared to the four the director said which has fans speculating that another one may have been chosen for Fighters Pass Vol. 2.

The most obvious choice of the bunch would of course be Dante from Devil May Cry considering he's not brought up in the discussion though Resident Evil 2's Leon S. Kennedy could fit that bill as well — Kamiya's pushed back on that in the past, however.

When Kamiya polled his own fans about which of his characters they'd like to see in Smash back in 2018, Dante was leading the pack before he pulled a Kamiya and deleted the whole thing.

There's been other events that have suggested the Son of Sparda's inclusion in Smash is coming with V's voice actor from DMC5 straight up saying that he was though later came back and claimed it was a mistake.

Devil May Cry's current director Hideaki Itsuno has also shared his interest in seeing Dante join the roster though at the time that wasn't really possible, as the series had never appeared on a Nintendo console. Now, however, the entire original trilogy is on the Switch which opens the gates for the possibility of Dante.

While Kamiya is said to be friends with Smash director Masahiro Sakurai, it wouldn't ultimately be up to him which of those characters would get in because Dante, Viewtiful Joe and Amaterasu are all owned by Capcom. Wonder Red would still be his department though.

There are some other possible explanations for the odd quote, however, including perhaps a small issue with the translation considering he does list four characters in total there aftwerwards. It's impossible to tell though without the original audio.

Min Min released as the latest character for Smash Ultimate just over a month ago which means we should be hearing about the second season pass character likely at some point in the near future with five more planned before the end of 2021.

Would you be excited for Dante's inclusion in Smash if he makes it in? Do you think that's what Kamiya was alluding to? You can check out his response below to gauge for yourself the meaning behind the director's words.
