Version 8.1.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now available to download. According to the patch notes, this update intends to improve the online experience and fix certain issues with the gameplay.

A new stage known as "Small Battlefield" has been added to the stage selection screen. Essentially, it's Battlefield with the top platform removed. This means that there are only two platforms present.

Stage-specific music can now be selected for Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Big Battlefield, and Final Destination. In other words, these stages can now be played with music from any other stage in the game.

There are also new icons on the stage selection menu for Random, Random Battlefield, and Random Omega Form.

Nintendo has also made adjustments to the online experience. It's also implied that the Preferred Rules settings are now even more likely to work correctly.

The threshold for getting into Elite Smash has been reduced. This means that more players can get into Elite Smash. More than likely, this also means that it will be easier to get characters into Elite Smash.

It's also noted that Nintendo intends to make further investigations and adjustments into the Online mode in the future.
