Super Smash Bros. Ultimate currently has over 1,400 Spirits from dozens of gaming franchises to collect, and interestingly, the next batch of side content is coming from another Square Enix property.

The Japanese Smash Bros. Twitter account announced the next Spirit Board event will be centered around the new Trials of Mana remake called The Spirits of Mana coming later this week.

What makes this stand out a bit is the tie between its game and its publisher / developer, Square Enix, because the company seemed to initially be a little stingy as to what could be included in the massive crossover.

Out of the current 1,410 Spirits in Smash, only two are from Final Fantasy and both of them are for Cloud. Coupled with the lack of extra music tracks like most guests as well, made it feel as though the company wasn't fully on board with Nintendo using their properties.

This changed a good bit once Dragon Quest's Hero came to the game last year, however, considering that series ended up with like 13 Spirits in Ultimate.

Now, we have a franchise not represented by a playable character at all, so it feels as though the company might be loosening its grip which makes me a little hopeful they might go back and do something more with Final Fantasy 7 with the remake taking over the world now.

As for what's going to be included with the new Spirit Board event is three new Spirits made up of pairs of the party members of Trials of Mana. Those pairs being Angela and Duran, Charlotte and Kevin, plus Hawkeye and Riesz.

The recent reveal of an ARMS character joining the cast of Smash next appears to have blown up the theory that Spirits can't become fighters though it doesn't feel likely at all to get a Mana fighter into the game for a multitude of reasons despite its long tie to Nintendo.

This new event will be taking place from April 24–29 to coincide with the Trials of Mana remake coming to the Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC on April 24.
