Bruce Campbell doesn't know if Army of Darkness' Ash Williams will be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11

Legal rights can swing it one way or the other

It wasn't long ago that an official email from Warner Bros. was seemingly mistakenly sent to IGN that had a copyright listing for Ash from Army of Darkness in Mortal Kombat 11. Ash's trademark was found among other guest characters such as Terminator and DC Comics' The Joker, leading fans to believe that Ash was leaked as an upcoming playable DLC character.

At this point in time, nothing has been confirmed on that front, and in a recent interview with Fansided Ash actor himself, Bruce Campbell, said about the same. Apparently, the groovy one simply does not know if Ash will be joining Mortal Kombat 11.

When asked if he could comment on the email to IGN, Campbell said, " I probably shouldn’t emphasize yes or no because I don’t know." He explains that he has not been informed on whether or not Ash will appear in the game, and goes on to state that if the news has not come via his agent or proper channels, then it's likely just wishful thinking from the masses.

"The reason why it may not happen, just so you and the readers can know this, a lot of time for legal purposes, that character cannot appear in other things because of the license," Campbell said. According to Campbell, there has not yet been any discussions with MGM — the rights owners of Army of Darkness — on the matter.

At the end of the day, Bruce says he honestly does not know if Ash will be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11. "I think I would have heard something. It’s not like my agent books me without consulting with me."

NetherRealm Studios has yet to announce any downloadable content for Mortal Kombat 11 beyond the game's Kombat Pack 1. There have been numerous hints that Ash would eventually join the game, but there still has yet to be an official reveal of anything following the initial wave of DLC.
