Side by side footage of the new Guilty Gear and Xrd shows just how much developers have leveled up their animation game

Really helps you appreciate the little things

We got our second big look at the upcoming Guilty Gear game (2020) last night during Tokyo Game Show, and HiFight has since put together a side by side presentation of some of this new footage with similar sequences from Xrd.

While it's clear that both are very much Guilty Gear, looking at them simultaneously really helps bring out all the little additional bells and whistles developers have put into the latest franchise entry.

One of the more obvious differences is the way the camera appears to have a bit more freedom in 2020. This could just be because the footage here is designed more for presentation as opposed to direct gameplay, but the transitions into super attacks are absolutely gorgeous.

What we've seen in 2020 is a little more fluid and pristine, which makes sense given that it's coming out some six years later.

It was actually Guilty Gear Xrd that made the franchise transition from hand-drawn sprites to cel-shaded graphics. This approach is consistent in 2020, but with a little more emphasis on detail and a slightly more realistic look.

You can check out the side by side sequences for yourself via the clip below. How do you feel about the small but significant changes in Guilty Gear's art style? Chime in with your responses in the comments.
