Explaining Joker's jagged hitboxes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Rekzis
So THAT'S why that move hits from so far away
It's widely accepted at this point that Joker is top tier. He may very well be the best character in the ever-growing Ultimate cast.
We've seen some crazy hitboxes out of Joker since he was released. That back air for instance, or the Arsene-assisted counter all have raised an eyebrow at some point. In this video, Rekzius breaks down the fighter to give us a better idea of how his attacks work.
The first mechanic everyone wants to know, is Arsene. Arguably the best comeback mechanic in the game, the hitboxes are as strong and disjointed as any.
Arsene uses something called hitbox part-values. This makes it so Arsene can have hitboxes independent of Joker. Arsene makes Joker very formidable, with some of his hitboxes overriding Joker's hitboxes.
Joker's Arsene-powered counter probably gets the most reward compared to any other counter in the game. This is due to Tetrakarn having an enormous hitbox.
When you time Rebel's Guard, you can fill the meter up quickly. It also fills independently over time but needs around 70% to fill up off of damage.
What do you think of Joker in Ultimate? Is he the best fighter, or is there someone better?
