Tomorrow's Nintendo Direct will very likely announce some news for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — let's speculate on what might be incoming

A new Nintendo Direct is scheduled for tomorrow on September 4, 2019 at 3 p.m. PDT / 6 p.m. EDT. We haven't seen one of these since E3 2019. As far as Smash news is concerned, we last learned that the Dragon Quest's Hero (now available) and Banjo-Kazooie would be making their way into the roster.

Although information regarding Pokémon Sword, Pokémon Shield, and Luigi's Mansion 3 was emphasized, it seems extremely likely that we'll be receiving information for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This comes across as being especially apparent due to a leak from Nintendo UK (which will be discussed in this article).

Despite the fact that we've already gained access to the Piranha Plant, Joker, and Hero as post game character additions, we do know that there are still two more fighters to be added. That's because the Fighters Pass — which does not include the Piranha Plant — still has two more slots that need to be filled after Banjo-Kazooie is added.

Of course, we know that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn't just known for adding new fighters via patches. Version 3.0.0 and 4.0.0 added new modes and features to the game.

Previously, Stage Builder, improved replay editor functions, and online tournaments were built into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after the title was initially launched. Something tells me that there's still more on the way.

Let's take some time to speculate on what we'll be learning about tomorrow during the Direct. There's a fair bit to dissect here.

Banjo-Kazooie information and release window

During E3 2019's Nintendo presentation, it was revealed to us that Banjo-Kazooie would become a playable fighter in Fall 2019. Although Fall doesn't technically start until September 23, there's a good chance that this doesn't matter that much.

Recall that Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U was scheduled for a Winter 2014 release. We ended up getting our hands on it November 21, 2014 in North America. The first day of winter for that year was actually December 21.

We'll probably be provided with information about Banjo-Kazooie's game play and more specific release info. In other words, a more exact date should hopefully be revealed during the Nintendo Direct.

Remember that Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has begun showing up in 7-Eleven ads. They'll continue to do so until September 15.

As a result of this, I can totally see a scenario where we're told that the character is available "right now," tonight, or tomorrow. That's just my own speculation though.

It's worth noting that Hero was playable before the ads for the fighter were removed so something similar could happen here.

Fourth and fifth characters of the Fighters Pass?

As it was mentioned earlier, Nintendo UK had accidentally leaked the the company behind the fourth combatant of the Fighters Pass. The fact that they later completely removed the web page really is indicative of this.

Which company was located in the copyright information? That would be SNK Corporation. They're widely renowned for fighting games like Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, and Samurai Shodown.

Outside of the fighting genre, they're also the ones behind the Metal Slug series. It seems that there are quite a few possibilities here.

A certain leaker who has made a number of correct predictions in the past regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's content has declared that the character we should be expecting is Terry Bogard. At last, we may finally be able to have the rematch between Street Fighter's Ryu and Ken against Terry.

But what about that leaker that claimed that Tecmo's Ryu Hayabusa would be the fourth in the lineup? Is there still some truth to that?

Assuming there's some legitimacy to this individual's claims, it's entirely possible that a trailer was constructed for this particular ninja. Perhaps we'll get two characters revealed during this next Nintendo Direct.

New content and modes

Although we have the Stage Builder and Online Tournament modes added, we're still missing Home Run Contest and Target Test. If something is in the works, the Nintendo Direct might reveal what's to come.

There's been quite a bit of speculation that we may see the return of some sort of Boss Rush mode. Needless to say, many of the games bosses — Master Hand, Crazy Hand, Ganon, Giga Bowser, Marx, Rathalos, Dracula, Galleom, Galeem, and Dharkon — can only be played during specific characters' Classic Mode playthroughs and the World of Light story.

Perhaps there are some surprises that we haven't imagined that are waiting for us. Here's hoping we get a glimpse at them tomorrow.

5.0.0 and implication of balance adjustments

Every new character added to the game after its release has resulted in the first value of the version number to be updated. With Piranha Plant came version 2.0.0, Joker with 3.0.0, and Hero with 4.0.0.

If Banjo-Kazooie is indeed releasing soon, we should theoretically hear about version 5.0.0. Each of these revisions has made a selection of balance adjustments to the roster.

Last time, a few minor tweaks were mentioned during the Hero's breakdown. Although this talked about details such as Final Smash meters depleting over time, it did confirm to the audience that balance adjustments were present.

We may end up seeing a similar situation come to fruition during this next Nintendo Direct. You'll surely want to keep an eye on our community voted tiers section for the game after this patch goes live.
