Most major fighting game publishers have stepped up to create their own pro tour circuits with big cash prizes to attract the best of the best to compete for a shot at a world title, and SNK is jumping into the fold with its latest games as well.

The developer announced today they will be running the SNK World Championship tournament series featuring Samurai Shodown and The King of Fighters 14 made up of qualifying events leading up to a final tournament in 2020.

For prize money, SNK is offering up over 10 million yen in totality, which equates to around $95,000 USD, though how that will be split amongst players and events will be announced at a later date.

Players will compete in SNK World Championship qualifier tournaments around the globe to earn their spot at the final table in Tokyo, Japan with regional events to be confirmed soon.

There will be 16 spots open for both Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters competitors for the final tournament, so they appear to be forgoing a point-based qualification system to bring the world together.

The SNK World Championship finale is set to take place from March 28–29, 2020 in Tokyo where they'll settle who is top dog in both titles — and we'll probably learn more about King of Fighters 15 as well.
