There's an image going around of an alleged new Marvel vs. Capcom game slated to be revealed at Capcom Cup – it's fake
Fan responses show how much the community really wants a new MvC entry
While perusing about for potential news on this particularly spooky Thursday, I noticed an image of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game titled "Marvel X Capcom: New Generation of Fighters." After two seconds of analysis, I realized that it was fake and moved on with my day.
After a few more seconds of scrolling, I saw the same image linked up by someone else, and then again from one of the most prominent members of the MvC community. It seems we may need a refresher on how to spot fake content, so let's take a quick look.
The image in question is simply a logo with a 2020 date and some text that says "Marvel X Capcom: New Generation of Fighters Reveal trailer - Capcom Cup 2019." For starters, while it doesn't technically disqualify the "leak," we're fairly skeptical that Capcom would change their Versus Series franchise from "MvC" to "MxC."
That "X" is certainly going to play on the emotions of the many fans who were disappointed at the fact that none of the X-Men characters made it into Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, but come on.
The logo itself is fairly bland, looks extremely similar to the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 logo, (sorry vanilla MvC3) and I have to agree with Maximilian's reaction to it, "There is no way in hell THAT logo would be used for an official title of any kind."
Finally, the text at the bottom of the image notes that the game will be available on PS5 and "Xbox Scarlet." Note the misspelling of "Scarlett" as well as the fact that "Project Scarlett" is very likely not the final title for next year's new console from Microsoft.

This was initially shared on Twitter by a user named Cobrashocker, who does not presume it to be real at all. Cobrashocker shed some light on where they came across the image.
"Just for clarification, I saw it on the yovideogames discord from someone else," Cobra said on Twitter. "That person shared it saying they found it on some forum, I have no idea where the images originally came from. But, sadly I think it’s fake as hell still."
We have heard rumors of a new MvC title floating about for some time now, and it is worth noting that the last major game reveal in the franchise was indeed preceded by a similar false lead by just one week.
While that's not really something we can take to the bank in terms of predicting actual new content, it worth noting how things played out in the past. While the community doesn't seem convinced (thankfully) that this is all anything more than a quick Photoshop job, we are seeing an uptick in wishlist discussions for a new Versus Series entry.
Marvel god Justin Wong shared the alleged leak with a repeated phrase, "PLEASE MAKE IT 3V3," clearly in juxtaposition to Infinite's departure to a 2v2 system. This spawned quite a long thread of fellow hopefuls with a general sentiment along the lines of "this is obviously fake, but if it were real, here's what we'd want."
It's clear the FGC is ready for a new Marvel vs. Capcom, and we hope one will be revealed sooner rather than later, but this surely is not it.
