Update: Skullgirls 2nd Encore finds a new home on Nintendo Switch next week, Xbox One version delayed indefinitely
Update: Skybound Games has confirmed Skullgirls' release date for the Switch with a new trailer while at the same time announcing that the Xbox One version of 2nd Encore has been delayed indefinitely with more information added to the story below.
Lab Zero Games just released their sophomore gaming endeavor with Indivisible last week, but now their original work is about to find a new home as well.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore will launch on Nintendo Switch a week from today on October 22 according to the game's eShop page listing.
The new release of the fighting game will be available for $24.99 USD and include all of the previously expanded roster inclusions like Robo Fortune and seeming lobby functionality.
Skullgirls first released back in 2012, and after a number of setbacks, it expanded and evolved with two updated versions including 2nd Encore. It's Switch version will be playable in TV, handheld and tablet modes.
This final version of the indie darling fighter includes fully voice acted story modes, combo trials, survival and just about everything else you'd expect wrapped up in a gameplay package that serves as a cross between Marvel vs. Capcom and Capcom vs. SNK.
"Lastly, while we were thrilled to share with fans earlier this year that Skybound would be bringing Skullgirls 2nd Encore to Switch AND Xbox One, we are sad to say that the Xbox One version has been postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen development and production challenges," reads Skybound's blog post. "We know this news is a huge disappointment to many fans, and we share that feeling with you. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Thank you to all of you for sticking with us and Skullgirls!"
A physical Limited Edition version of Skullgirls on Switch is also available for pre-order including a copy of the game, soundtrack on vinyl and a themed Joy-Con skin.
