D'Vorah spider... D'Vorah spider all damn day

The spooky times continue as Halloween fast approaches. There is no shortage of creepy content in fighting games, with some companies putting specifically themed costumes, stages, and more into their titles.

However, I want to look toward a game that isn't exactly Halloween-themed, but prides itself on the kind of extreme gore you'd find in any quality Horror film. Today we're running through the top 10 scariest and most unsettling Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 11. Obviously, lots of NSFW content awaits if you proceed.

As you probably know by now, I am a big fan of the Horror genre, so Halloween is easily one of my favorite holidays. That also means I've seen a lot of slasher movies, bloody monster flicks, and Dead Alive — which might be one of the goriest movies ever made.

It's not easy to unsettle me when it comes to this kind of stuff, but Mortal Kombat 11 does a great job of bringing the heat and has several finishers that make me cringe in discomfort.

With all of that having been said, let's jump into my top 10 Fatality picks.

Geras — Peeling Back

Starting off with a bang, Geras' "Peeling Back" Fatality is absolutely brutal. After pounding the opponent into a large wall of sand, Geras grabs them by the hand and viciously rips the entire front half of their body off in a messy explosion of blood and organs.

It takes Geras two big yanks to pull his victim apart, and that moment after the first tug where the arm is split apart and lingers for a second or two before the big finish is hard to look at. This is a fairly creative Fatality as when I first saw it, I wasn't exactly sure where it was going. Now that I know what it's all about, it's definitely worth of the "unsettling" title.

Frost — Ice Sculpture

If horrifying, disfigured zombie creatures that look like they came right out of Dead Space scare you, then this one is for you.

Frost creates icy drills on her hands and makes two large holes in the opponent. She then stuffs an ice grenade into the opening in their belly, which explodes after a couple of seconds and freezes the limbs and entrails in place.

What's left is an icy figure composed of frozen blood, bits of flesh, and limbs that would be terrifying to see coming at you.

Kollector — For The Kollection

There's something about having a crazed, six-armed creature on top of you, ripping you to shreds that really turns the stomach. That's what Kollector does with this gruesome Fatality.

Tearing out organs and intestines as he analyzes the worth of each piece, Kollector dismantles the opponent before pulling their head off and putting it away in his backpack for later. Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough, the servant of Shao Kahn slams his fists into their torso to create a large splash of blood to close it out.

This is one of those finishers that I could easily see coming from a classic zombie film.

Kano — Last Dance

Waltzing with a dead body is creepy. Waltzing with someone who is still dying and gushing blood? That might be creepier.

Kano has no shame as he breaks a beer bottle on the opponent's face after chugging it, then proceeds to stab them in the neck with it. As they begin bleeding immensely and are about to fall down, Kano grabs them by the hand and engages in a little slow dance with them.

It's gross, it's weird, it's kind of funny, and overall, it makes me uncomfortable, which means it makes for an excellent Fatality.

Kabal — Hooked

This Fatality is one of those finishers you can almost feel as you watch it.

After slicing the opponent's belly and turning them around, Kabal takes his hook swords and slashes both of their Achilles tendons. The pain I can only imagine that comes from having that part of your foot cut open makes mine hurt just thinking about it.

If that wasn't brutal enough, Kabal finishes it off by hooking his sword into the sides of the opponent's mouth, ripping their head off as he applies pressure to their back with his foot. This is another one of those unsettling Fatalities that you might have to look away from a few times.

Shang Tsung — Kondemned to the Damned

Shang Tsung's Fatality, "Condemned the Damned," is scary as hell. Actually, the opponent is dragged down into Hell... kind of.

A set of chains hook the opponent's limbs and dangle them up above a portal that opens up on the ground below. Two demons come straight out of the depths and begin ripping at the character's torso, taking chunks out of them and dropping them down into the portal before pulling their skeleton mostly out of their body.

This is another one of those spooky scenes straight out of a Horror film, and I approve.

How to do it: Back, Forward, Down, Down, 1 (Mid-range)

Jade — Pole Dance

Here's a Fatality that has a couple of disturbing moments in it that'll likely stick with you. Basically, Jade turns the opponent around, puts her staff through their eye from the back of their head, then cuts them in half and spins their torso around... like a pole dancer.

The two moments here that give me the chills are when the staff goes through the opponent's head and they stand there screaming and shaking for a bit before Jade cuts them up. The second moment is the finish where a lifeless torso with intestines hanging out spins slowly.

It's an unsettling finisher for sure, and an overall brutal way to close out a match.

Terminator — Target Terminated

The cybernetic overlords enslaving the human race is a fear that is becoming more real as technology continues to advance. It's a bleak future in the Terminator films, and it is one that is captured perfectly in Mortal Kombat 11.

One of Terminator's Fatalities sees him blast off the opponent's legs and transport them to the future he came from. The world is ravaged by war, and Terminators are roaming around causing destruction.

One unit approaches as the opponent tries to crawl away, but is blasted through the chest with a laser rifle. This one not only looks great, but it's scary on the level that if Skynet ever becomes a real thing, we might be in big trouble...

Kotal Kahn — Totem Sacrifice

That kick in the head, man... That damn kick in the head.

With this Fatality, Kotal Kahn sacrifices his opponent to the gods. After raising a platform to perform the sacrifice and kicking the opponent into it, Kotal runs full clip at his now seated foe and kicks their head so hard that it detaches from their body, exposing their spinal cord.

Another strong kick puts the head into position, and from there Kotal summons a giant skull to completely crush it. That kick is so gruesome, it really makes this Fatality stand out.

D'Vorah — New Species

And of course, I saved the best for last.

D'Vorah's "New Species" Fatality is the stuff of nightmares. All I'm going to say about this one is that she vomits into her victim's mouth, which ends up spawning a giant spider inside their torso — because of course it does.

I don't want to be anywhere near this Fatality. Nope. You can't make me!
