Daigo explains how he chose Ken in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike — 'it was impossible to beat Chun-Li with Ryu'

That's why he used Ken instead of Ryu

What's the first thing you think of when it comes to Street Fighter 3: Third Strike? The infamous EVO Moment #37?

Have you ever wondered what made CYG|Daigo pick Ken out of the fighters available. He gives his reasoning in the video.

Daigo wasn't even going to play Third Strike initially. It wasn't until the scene for the game started dying down when players began making the move to Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

When he first started playing the game, he was using Ryu due to familiarity. He decided to stop playing him and find a better fighter to be serious about the game. Daigo then realized it was "impossible" to beat Chun-Li with Ryu.

Daigo also mentioned how even Ken couldn't beat Chun-Li, but he was better than Ryu. That was enough to sway him to picking Ken over Ryu.

If the game hadn't have had Chun-Li he might've played Ryu instead of Ken. He chose his supers based off of characters he would face.
