The Game Awards annual show will take place this year on December 12, 2019. It's very likely that there will probably be a few announcements that should attract the attention of fighting game fans, just like last year.

In fact, one of the awards that will be announced this year is the "Fighting Game of the Year" award. As 2019 has overall been an excellent year for fighting game enthusiasts, there are a few nominees that have to be considered.

Although Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was actually released on December 7, 2018, it's one of the nominees that can be voted for. This is because the game came out just a single day after The Game Awards 2018.

Last year, Joker from Persona 5 was revealed as the first DLC characters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass at the show. Since the game's release, 15 million units have been sold. How will these sales translate into votes?

Another game that can be voted on is Jump Force. This anime crossover arena fighter was released on February 15, 2019. Tempo|ZeRo, PerfectLegend, D-Piddy, and TSM|Leffen have already indicated that they've submitted their votes for this game.

Dead or Alive 6 was released back on March 1, 2019. This game was able to sell around 350,000 units during its first month on the market. While this game might be a bit of an underdog, it has the potential to create an upset and snag the award.

Mortal Kombat 11 was actually first announced at The Game Awards 2018. Netherrealm Studios' latest entry in the Mortal Kombat series was released just a few months later on April 23, 2019. At one point, Mortal Kombat 11 was considered to be the second best-selling game of 2019.

Last but not least is Samurai Shodown. This SNK fighting game was released on June 25, 2019. The game has already been shown to be quite popular due to the success at EVO 2019.
