New Sonic the Hedgehog trailer shows off improved redesign, former head of Sonic Team Yuji Naka shares his thoughts on changes

Will it actually be decent?

When the first Sonic the Hedgehog film trailer dropped earlier in 2019, pretty much everyone around the world had the same reaction at the same time: what the hell am I looking at? Most of the ire was directed towards Sonic's nightmarish looks in the movie which the movie studio did not ignore.

Paramount Pictures ended up delaying the release of Sonic's big-screen debut to redesign the Sega mascot to be more traditional, and today the studio released a brand new trailer to showcase the new look along with a lot more footage we hadn't seen before.

This new look has captured the eye of the internet as a whole and also that of former head of Sonic Team over at Sega, Yuji Naka, who gave his new opinions on Twitter as well.

"Sonic's new design for the movie is out," said Naka on his first tweet as translated by Dualshockers. "However, it seems they're making it as if the old design didn’t exist, as the movie official account's old tweets were deleted. I wanted to see a special DVD version of the movie which used the old design. Too bad."

He followed that up by saying it is now much more Sonic-like now that he has gloves though he's still not 100 percent there since the hedgehog's eyes aren't joined together like in the games.

Sonic the Hedgehog's release date is still set for February 14, 2020. You can check out the three-minute trailer filled with new scenes of the blue blur and Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik along with a new poster for the film.
