Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update Version 3.1.0 will reportedly add VR support, scheduled to launch tonight at 6 p.m. PDT

Can also send your Amiibo fighters out on adventures

Nintendo originally appeared to be ignoring the recent trend of virtual reality in video games until they went ahead and released their own headset using their Labo cardboard technology to strap the Switch directly to a player's face.

We've known for a few days now that the Version 3.1.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be coming soon, and we now know what time it's supposedly to launch along with some intriguing new features that appear to be incoming with the patch — namely a VR mode for the hugely popular title.

Smash Ultimate's latest patch will reportedly go live for players later tonight, May 30, at 6 p.m. PDT according to SSBUBot that receives data directly from Nintendo's game servers.

SSBUBot also posted the patch notes news pop up for new features that includes a way to play the game in virtual reality. "VR mode is now available! A whole new perspective on the Smash action awaits!" the first line of the update text will reportedly read.

The VR mode will require players to have the Toy-Con VR Goggles to immerse themselves though we do not yet know what the mode will be used for as far as features and gameplay are concerned.

Players will also be able to send their Amiibo fighters off on adventures to fight and train against other learning computer combatants plus they can also be used in online Battle Arenas against other players.

Balance changes are also coming with the update though they are not listed in SSBUBot's notes at this time. Replay data from the current patch will become unusable once the new update goes live, so make sure you export them to videos before this evening.

Nintendo has been rolling out VR modes to a number of their big first-party exclusive titles in recent months including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, so it appears that Smash will be next in line to see the peripheral push.
