Those that are familiar with Leah "GRPT|Gllty" Hayes already know that she holds styling on her opponents as just as high a priority as defeating them. During today's early Mortal Kombat 11 pools at Combo Breaker, the style points wound up being especially costly.

Upon defeating your foe in MK11 you do have the option to grant them "Mercy" wherein they gain back about 20% of their health and a second chance at life. This mechanic, which feels like it was made for Gllty, came into play during her set with IVWHAT|Shino not once, not twice, but three separate times.

It's one thing to pull of a Mercy when you perceive that you're comfortably in control and have plenty of life left to spare, but what's the fun in that?

Gllty took the first round of the set by a fairly narrow margin, and then took the second by an even smaller one. At this point, she technically had secured the first of two matches needed to advance, but did she take it? Of course not.

Gllty gave Shino's Jacqui Briggs a second chance and wound up paying for it as Shino was able to take the round back and then win the third and final round to ultimately steal away the first match.

Here's footage of that first Mercy choice as well as the turn around afterwards:

The second match was much more in Gllty's favor as she took her foe out two rounds in a row, this time with plenty of health left in the reserve. Again she went with the entertainingly disrespectful granting of a second chance, but this time it went very much in her favor.

In true Gllty fashion, she added as much insult to injury as possible by spending a bit of time gloating before moving on to the next bout. This would make the set count 1-1:

Throwing away a first match win is one thing, but surely a player wouldn't toy around with fate by chancing a last game, last round, low life situation with Mercy, would they? For Gllty, it's all or nothing, and she went for it all:

While it cost her the tournament set, it did garner quite a bit of social media attention (as well as this article). Mortal Kombat head honcho, Ed Boon, even tweeted out how proud he was to see players doing multiple Mercies in tournament, which is almost certainly a nod to this particular instance:

If you'd like to view the full match (we recommend you do) you can check out the NetherRealm stream archive. That should bump you straight to the two hour and 52 minute mark, but if not, jump to the two hour and 52 minute mark.

With all things considered we'll mark this one down as a win for Gllty; we imagine she's done the same.
