Fighting game legends Daigo Umehara and Fuudo face off in the first public matches of Granblue Fantasy Versus

Cygames has had their hands in the eSports pie for a while now with Shadowverse and their Cygames Beast initiative which sponsors some of the most recognizable recognizable faces in the fighting game community though it seems like now they want to own a bigger slice by introducing their own title to the genre.

Granblue Fantasy Versus is coming to some PlayStation 4 players soon with its closed beta, but Cygames and Arc System Works decided to bring in a few of their professionals in CYG|Daigo Umehara and CYG|Fuudo to battle it out for a new video that gives us our first look at mechanics and how full matches play out.

Each player had to select two of the five possible characters and win a best of three set where Daigo selected Katalina and Charlotta while Fuudo went with some trickier fighters in Lancelot and Ferry. The pair had Creative Director Tetsuya Fuhukara and Lead Battle Planner Kazuto "Pachi" Sekine in their corners to help them learn the mechanics of the new ArcSys fighting game.

Skills in Granblue Fantasy Versus can be activated in two different ways with either a single press of the button or manually inputted to shorten their usage cooldown. Each timer is fixed though more powerful versions of attacks will take longer to recharge.

Skybound Arts work as Granblue Fantasy Versus' supers that can be used once the SB Gauge is completely filled after performing almost any action during a match. More powerful Super Skybound Arts are available once a characters life becomes critically low.

After one hour of practice, the fighting game legends faced off in fast-paced matches that showed off every character that will assumedly be in the beta — sans Gran. You can check out the full video below to see Daigo vs. Fuudo in something other than Street Fighter while learning about the mechanics of Granblue Fantasy Versus.
