Bruce Campbell responds to supposed data mine leaks claiming Ash from Evil Dead is a Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character

A recent set of supposed data-mined files claimed to reveal the upcoming DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 11. Among the combatants listed was Ash from the Evil Dead series, as well as a handful of other big ticket guest characters.

Ash Williams himself, actor Bruce Campbell, recently responded to the rumors on Twitter. Spoiler warning: This story will cover the specifics of the leaks, so in case they are indeed real, you might want to steer clear now to avoid spoilers.

Reddit user LeoNatan originally shared the data-mined files last month showing strings of code with references to what they claim are the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters. These files were mined from the Nintendo Switch version of the game and list a total of nine additional fighters — which is more than the six we've officially heard about.

The reported DLC characters found within the game's files include Shang Tsung (who was officially revealed already), DC Comics' Joker, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Spawn, Ash Williams, Fujin, and Sheeva.

These leaks were further bolstered when a large chunk of alleged intro dialogue surfaced a few days later on Test Your Might. Forum user interloko shared several interactions between the listed DLC characters, with very particular references and call outs pointing to their specific identities — like Joker making references to Batman and Ash mentioning the Necronomicon.

Joker: "Y'know, you remind me of Bats."
Terminator: "Who?"
Joker: "Just another jerk with no sense of humor."

The sheer number of bits of dialogue shared in the post do add a lot to the credibility of these leaks simply because it would be an incredible feat to put together all of it without it sounding fishy. If they're fake, someone did an excellent job matching the precise style and humor NetherRealm Studios uses with their interactions in Mortal Kombat 11.

To counter that, though, Bruce Campbell's recent statement on Twitter gives a hard "no" to the rumors being true — at least as far as Ash is concerned. "Consider this my finishing move against a certain internet rumor," Campbell wrote on Twitter obviously in response to the MK11 leaks.

The tweet also came equipped with an edited image of Bruce Campbell in an old Mortal Kombat match against "Internet Rumor" and posing after performing a Fatality on the idea of Ash being DLC in Mortal Kombat 11.

Straight from the man himself, it seems as though Ash will not be DLC in MK11. To play devil's advocate, however, I will say that we originally reported that Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa — the actor who played Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat film — might have been hinting at his involvement in Mortal Kombat 11, to which he responded saying he was not actually doing so.

It turned out that Tagawa is indeed in the game reprising his role as Shang Tsung, who will be Mortal Kombat 11's first DLC character, so there is a chance that this could be a means to throw people off the scent from Campbell. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.
