Dragon Ball FighterZ is seeing a new DLC character added to its roster this week. With a collective groan from fans, Dragon Ball GT's Kid Goku brings yet another version of the series' main protagonist into the fold as a playable character.

Despite the upcoming character putting another notch in the "Goku" column, Kid Goku actually has a fairly varied playstyle and some interesting tools at his disposal. We're likely looking at a fresh character with a familiar face in Dragon Ball FighterZ, and here's what we know about Kid Goku so far.

General:

First up, Kid Goku is set to hit consoles on Thursday, May 9. The smallest iteration of the Gokus comes as Dragon Ball FighterZ's third DLC character, with Dragon Ball Super's Jiren and Dragon Ball Z's Videl preceding him and Dragon Ball Super Broly and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Gogeta to follow.

Interestingly enough, Dragon Ball FighterZ DLC characters have traditionally been released in pairs, but the fourth fighter remains a mystery. If Bandai Namco intends to continue this pattern, we could be seeing another character reveal this week.

Kid Goku can be purchased as part of the Season 2 FighterZ Pass for $24.99 USD — which will give you access to all six of this season's DLC characters. You can also opt to buy Kid Goku as a standalone character for $4.99 USD (based on previous DLC character prices).

Gameplay:

One of the biggest draws of the Dragon Ball GT series is the Super Saiyan 4 form, and Kid Goku does utilize it in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Instead of it being a powered-up separate state — like Golden Frieza — Kid Goku transforms into the hairy Super Saiyan during his Dragon Fist Super, but only when his teammates are already KO'd.

If that criteria is met, Kid Goku will transform into Super Saiyan 4 during the super attack, landing a more powerful strike that happens to be the iconic punch through with the golden dragon used to defeat Omega Shenron.

Kid Goku also comes equipped with a Kamehameha super that sees him transform into Super Saiyan 3, if one of his teammates is knocked out. Based on what we've seen, it appears to work like a standard level 1 beam super.

This version of Goku also takes inspiration from the original Dragon Ball as Kid Goku uses his Power Pole in battle. This gives him access to more ranged attacks, and though we only see a quick glimpse of it in the trailer, it should make for an interesting tool in combat.

Also from the original series, this bite-sized Goku can use the Reverse Kamehameha to propel himself through the air and can lead to a flying headbutt that looks similar to the one used to defeat King Piccolo back early on.

Lastly, the Dragon Ball GT Goku will be able to fire off a “Super Ultimate Spirit Bomb” Meteor Attack that appears to cover a lot of screen space, much like Base Form Goku.
