It appears as though even more big companies not typically associated with video games are throwing their hats in the ring of eSports and sponsoring players within the fighting game community.

Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi announced today via his Twitter account that his is now sponsored by the Japanese company Rohto, which is known in the West for their eye drops though they do offer different products elsewhere, in a partnership with Sony Music.

Tokido was the number one ranked player in the world during the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour and EVO 2017 champion for Street Fighter 5 seen as many as perhaps the strongest player currently in the scene due to his consistency.

Since SF5 launched until January of this year, Taniguchi was under the umbrella of team Echo Fox alongside other top tier talent in the FGC like GCCS|Justin Wong, VP|Momochi, FOX|MkLeo and FOX|SonicFox though the vast majority of their fighting game players have parted ways with the brand over the past six months.

Sony Music is a subsidary of the much larger Sony Entertainment which also produces the PlayStation 4 that has a direct connection to Street Fighter 5's development and publishing, but the different branches within Sony are kept very separate meaning there should be no conflicts of interest found in the new deal.

Rohto is specifically sponsoring Tokido for their Z! brand of eye drops as well as their OXY personal care products, so he might be popping up at events with clearer and sharper eyes to take down his competition — the company also currently sponsors CO|Go1.
