SNK All-Star announced as a fighting... mobile RPG
SNK All-Star is a title that in name alone carries a ton of promise with it given the company's long and storied history with fighting games and the arcade scene, so a mobile RPG probably isn't something many players in the West would think about when first hearing the name... unless they've been paying attention to what came before.
That's right. Developers 37Games announced that SNK All-Star will be coming to iOS and Android devices as a free-to-play title later this year combining the worlds of The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, The Last Blade and other classic series into a new crossover.
While the exact details of the gameplay have yet to be revealed, the mobile title appears to be an RPG where players build teams of three classic SNK heroes to take down foes, level up and acquire new fighters.
Characters like Kyo Kusanagi, Nakoruru, Haohmaru, Ukyo Tachibana, Kaeda, Yuki, Athena Asamiya, Chizuru Kagura, Iori Yagami, Leona and Terry Bogard have been officially shown off for SNK All-Star though there are likely dozens more to be found within the game.
The story revolves around Kyo's defeat of Orochi causing a crack in space and time to occur and brings together fighters from different lands and eras as they try to defeat the evil force once again to return to their homes.
Pre-registration is now open for SNK All-Star in Japan, and while a Western release has not been confirmed, it may be likely due to its tie to The King of Fighters All-Star which is another mobile game launched last year in Japan that will be coming westward in 2019. You can check out the official screenshots in the gallery below plus its full description after the jump — and for those hungry for a more traditional experience we still have Samurai Shodown coming later this year and The King of Fighters 15 currently in development.

SNK All-Star Overview
SNK All-Star combines the different eras and settings of popular SNK fighting games such as the The King of Fighters: Ultimate Match series, Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa’s Revenge, and The Last Blade 2 to create a new parallel world-esque scenario. The story unfolds in another world — one different from the world in which the Sacred Treasures Team (Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami, and Chizuru Kagura) sealed away Orochi, which SNK fans (especially The King of Fighters fans) may be familiar with.
When sealing away Orochi, Kyo Kusanagi unleashed a huge energy that distorted space and time, creating huge cracks in parallel worlds that swallowed up the Nakoruru, Haohmaru, Ukyo Tachibana, Kaeda, and Yuki in the worlds of each other dimension. And they all awaken in a future modern world.
It was an era where Kyo Kusanagi participated in the King of Fighters tournament for the first time, and Orochi had not yet been revived. Rugal Bernstein was the strongest enemy at the time. However, in order to reopen the crack in space and time to return to their home worlds, Nakoruru and the others must confront the dreadful situation that is the "Orochi Resurrection."
Defeat Orochi to reopen the crack in space and time!
In short, in order to reopen the crack in space and time, you must reproduce the scene of the Orochi seal. If the time-hopping Nakoruru and the others can team up with Kyo Kusanagi and seal away Orochi, everyone will get the ending they desire. But if they cannot accomplish their goal, the results will be dreadful. Not only will Nakoruru and company not be able to return to their original worlds, the human race will be at risk of annihilation at the hands of Orochi.
What will be the outcome of this difficult challenge? Players (fighters) will soon be faced with the most difficult decision involving the future of the human race!
