Last night's episode of The Walking Dead featured a gruesome scene involving The Whisperers leader, Alpha, that one would easily find within the Mortal Kombat series. Spoiler and NSFW content alert: This story will feature some spoilers from the episode and includes content not suitable for work.

The Walking Dead is deep into its ninth season, and last night we saw episode 12, entitled "Guardians," aired on AMC. This installment put a large focus on The Whisperers — this season's major antagonists — following leader Alpha as she and her massive group of faux walkers traveled back home after trading for her daughter Lydia at The Hilltop.

Viewers were finally given a closer look at how The Whisperers live their lives as nomads among the undead, showing their current camp and way of life in detail.

Alpha is a ruthless and psychotic leader who has gone unopposed for years due to her intensity and ability to keep The Whisperers alive, but last night's episode saw a couple challenge her commander status. With the help of her massive bodyguard Beta, Alpha made quick work of the lovers in one of the most gruesome scenes the show has seen yet.

Alpha wrapped a wire around the female challenger's neck from behind effectively decapitating her. In true Mortal Kombat style, Alpha proceeded to pick up the severed head and hold it up for the entire Whisperers clan to see.

The scene was reminiscent of Sub-Zero's trademark spine rip Fatality where the icy ninja pulls the opponent's head off with spine intact and holds it up in victory. Even The Walking Dead's official Twitter account saw the connection as earlier today they shared a mock up of a Fatality win-screen for Alpha on social media and tagged the official Mortal Kombat account.

"Psst @MortalKombat #TheWalkingDead," the official TWD wrote with the eyes looking and zombie emojis in tow.

The Mortal Kombat Twitter responded asking "When is Johnny Cage going to guest star? #MK11"

We recently saw the addition of former Saviors leader Negan in Tekken 7, so a crossover between Mortal Kombat and The Walking Dead might not be as far-fetched as one might think.

Alpha or Beta in Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character would be fantastic, and if last night's show was any indication, The Whisperers would fit right in.
