Banjo-Kazooie announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

We already had one new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announcement earlier this morning for The Hero from the Dragon Quest series, but that's not all that Nintendo had up their sleeves for big reveals.

To close out their E3 Direct stream, Nintendo revealed that the long awaited Banjo and Kazooie would also be making their way to Smash Ultimate as DLC.

This is particularly big news because this marks the first time that a third-party character owned by a current rival console maker has appeared in a Smash title — yes Nintendo got Sonic and Bayonetta from Sega, but that was years after they left the console space.

Microsoft acquired Rare and most of their IP back in 2002 after the developers had spent the majority of their time up to that point making Nintendo console exclusive titles including Banjo-Kazooie, Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong Country and Perfect Dark.

We won't be getting a surprise release coming today or this week unfortunately, as Banjo's release window was announced to be Fall 2019 at the end of the surprise trailer.

The widely popular bear and bird jump into the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate battle with plenty of their trademark attacks at the ready.

We see that Banjo-Kazooie has the ability to utilize their faster run where Kazooie takes over and carries Banjo on her back. Banjo also uses his three-hit punch combo as the duo's standard jab combo in Smash, and they have the ability to shoot eggs in a variety of ways.

The DLC character's stage is Gruntilda's Lair where players will face off at the top of the mountain. Even the Jinjos make an appearance in Smash Bros. Ultimate by way of Banjo-Kazooie's Final Smash.
