Bruce Campbell flat out says Evil Dead's Ash Williams is not a playable DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11

'I'm not doing s*** with [Mortal Kombat 11]'

If you had hopes that Evil Dead's main protagonist, Ash Williams, would appear in Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC, this story might not be the news you wanted to hear today.

The man behind Ash himself, Bruce Campbell, recently sat down for an interview with the Jim and Sam Show during which the subject of Ash in MK11 came up. After addressing the leaks previously on Twitter, Campbell gives a more straight answer about the crossover — it's not happening.

"When I posted that graphic killing this rumor, I had never heard any hint, no one approached me about it, my reps, nothing," Campbell began. "So I went, 'no, this is wrong! I'm not doing s*** with that. Sorry. Bye!'"

Campbell goes on to say that after he posted the initial image showing him defeating the rumors of Ash in a Photoshopped rendition of Mortal Kombat, he was actually contacted about a potential crossover with Mortal Kombat 11.

What it boils down to is, if Ash could make a quick cameo in the game where he says a few lines, but isn't a playable character, Campbell would be on board. Though, I can't imagine a scenario where such a cameo would work in a fighting game — especially as DLC.

While Ash from Evil Dead has always been one of those dream crossovers that Mortal Kombat fans have hoped to see, the idea of the character appearing in Mortal Kombat 11 recently grew legs when a supposed leak of the game's DLC characters via data mining the Nintendo Switch version surfaced.

The initial leaks claimed nine characters would be coming to MK11 as DLC, which is three more than the six we know we're getting in Kombat Pack. The list saw Ash Williams on it, and what followed was another alleged leak of tons of character interaction dialogue featuring all of the originally claimed DLC fighters further adding fuel to the credibility fire.

Bruce Campbell's first addressing of the rumors deterred fans for a bit, but the hint in the official Shang Tsung gameplay trailer quickly perked the community's ears up once again.

Toward the end of the trailer, we see text revealing that two more guest characters are set to join Mortal Kombat 11 in the Kombat Pack. We hear a chainsaw rev up and blood splatter on the text, which fans of Evil Dead know are trademarks of Ash Williams.

So far, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, and guest character Spawn have all been officially revealed as playable DLC characters in Mortal Kombat 11. All four of these fighters were on the initial leak list, so we'll just have to wait and see if it stays true or if Bruce is correct here.
