Samurai Spirits PlayStation 4 demo reported to have 8 frames of input lag, SNK comments on matter

Input latency stability rating also assessed

Input lag has been much more under the spotlight of public focus since the fighting game community realized that Street Fighter 5 initially had just under eight frames of delay between button presses and screen manifestations; it seems the upcoming Samurai Shodown (Samurai Spirits) is facing similar issues.

Loïc "WydD" Petit, who has a PhD in computer science, has run some tests on the current Sam Sho demo and found the latest from development company SNK carries an average of eight frames of input lag.

Petit posted his findings via Twitter on Sunday with the text, "Samurai Spirits PS4 Demo input lag results. This is the worst lag I have ever measured. Input lag: 8.0 frames (134ms, F+ tier) Stability: 83%. As a reference: KOF 14 is 4.6f (B tier) similar to T7, DBFZ or SF5."

That stability rating measures how consistent the lag actually is. Sometimes inputs come out a bit faster or slower than the average, and lack of consistency further detracts from the validity of the game as a platform for assessing skill and ability.

SNK Community Manager, Krispy Kaiser, took note of the results of Petit's research and quickly responded on Twitter with the following statement. "Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The devs have been informed and are working out a plan as I type this out. Thanks for your understanding."

Here you'll see a visual depicting Petit's findings. The second image reveals the input lag and stability ratings for a handful of other fighting game titles Petit has researched.
