How can Capcom finally make Ryu top tier again in Street Fighter 5? VesperArcade dives into the ultimate wish list

Street Fighter poster boy Ryu has had a difficult life in Street Fighter 5. Being one of the strongest characters right out of the gate in season 1, the wandering warrior took a dive in season 2 and hasn't really been able to ascend much on the tier list since.

Though Ryu has definitely seen buffs since his initial dip, the character still seems to be lacking the proper tools to hang with the better fighters in Street Fighter 5 season 4. Because of this, VesperArcade has put together a video analyzing how Capcom could make Ryu top tier once again.

Vesper brings in fellow streamer and Ryu player AMKIDD to help dig into things.

To start, the guys note that Ryu should have a crouching medium punch that is +3 on block. This would give him better stagger pressure up close, making him more threatening and closer in line to what Akuma has.

More buffs for various Ryu normals are pitched, including adding armor to his forward + heavy punch — though Vesper notes it should lose to lows and remind viewers that this is a wish list to make the character top tier.

Other wish list changes discussed here include the ability to juggle into Critical Art from a light punch Dragon Punch anti-air, the ability to combo into medium kick Hurricane Kick on crouchers, and much more.

Be sure to check out the video below and let us know if you agree with Vesper's Ryu changes.
