'Spawn can do a lot of cool stuff... there's going to be a lot more red than just his cape' — Todd McFarlane teases new Mortal Kombat 11 Spawn details

We're all eagerly awaiting news and teases regarding Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11 by NetherRealm Studios. In the meantime, Todd McFarlane — the creator of the Spawn series — recently had a chance to speak with IGN about what he is willing to share.

When NetherRealm Studios came to McFarlane about putting Spawn into Mortal Kombat 11, he only had one condition.

"This thing needs to be so cool from a Mortal Kombat fan's point of view, not a Spawn fan's point of view," said the creator. "You will have done your job and I will be proud of you if somebody downloads this character at some point, doesn't even know who it is, they go 'I don't know what his name is. Prawn or Spam or something, but he's my favorite character to play.'"

"Because if you hit that in your game, then you're going to make all my Spawn fans happy," continued McFarlane. Needless to say, it sounds like Spawn is going to have a pretty amazing trailer.

McFarlane also praised the Mortal Kombat 11 development team for being very knowledgeable "geeks" of the Spawn franchise. There were times where even McFarlane himself was confused about certain references. NetherRealm Studios had to remind him of the origins as they were showing him what was happening.

It also sounds like Spawn is going to have some extremely brutal attacks in order to fit in with the rest of Mortal Kombat characters. "There's going to be a lot more red than just his cape," concluded McFarlane.

As of right now, no information about Spawn's release date is known. There's a possibility we may learn more at EVO 2019.

NetherRealm Studios has only provided teases about Sindel and Nightwolf at this time. Having said that, this interview with Todd McFarlane confirms that work has been progressing in very interesting ways.
