Since becoming a staple of the fighting game community, Defend the North has continued to grow. It reached a new high this year, posting personal bests in attendance and registration while more than doubling up last year's numbers.

Now boasting stats better than a couple of premiere events, Defend the North is larger than ever. On top of the entrants increase, DTN will be paying out winners and top eight the same day.

Last year the event topped out at 676 attendees. This year it sports an excellent 1,402 and counting.

The hype is very real as Defend the North has brought star power to it as well. Top-notch players such as Justin Wong, FOX|SonicFox, T1|ANTi, PG|Marss, TL|Dabuz, FOX|Dekillsage, NRG|HookGangGod, EG|NyChrisG, DIGNITAS|HugS, eUnited|Samsora, Rogue|Light, FOX|KnuckleDuDang, and more are expected to compete.

The event's location is right by Times' Square, which means your experience isn't one that must be regulated to just the tournament. There will undoubtedly be plenty to experience in the city over the course of the weekend.

With 30+ different games available for casual play, you're guaranteed to find one to enjoy yourself. The tournament will also feature over 20 tournaments for games both past and present, including major titles like Street Fighter 5, Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Samurai Shodown, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and more.

Add in a cosplay contest, community-run side events, and top tier competition in all the tournament games, and you're bound to enjoy yourself at New York City's first major. Make sure you check out the 24-hour gaming in the arcade and BYOC rooms.

Defend the North is taking place this weekend, July 19 - 21, at the New Yorker Hotel.
