The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is gearing up to bring the extreme, gory violence the video game series is known for to the big screen. Not only will the film be rated R, but it will also feature Fatalities.

Writer Greg Russo said as much yesterday on Twitter, letting fans know that they can look forward to seeing Mortal Kombat's classic finishing moves for the first time ever in a Mortal Kombat film.

"Since it's already been stated by other members of the team, I'm gonna put this one to bed," Russo wrote on Twitter. "MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I'm not gonna say which ones) You'll just have to wait for the movie & see!!! ;)"

At this point in time, we aren't sure which of the fighters on Mortal Kombat's colorful cast will make appearances in the movie. We do, however, know that Sub-Zero will be in the film and he will be played by Joe Taslim of Fast & The Furious and The Raid fame.

The Mortal Kombat series hasn't been on the silver screen since back in 1997 with Mortal Kombat Annihilation. With today's technologies and special effects, it will certainly be interesting to see how these characters are portrayed in modern times.

Mortal Kombat's upcoming film is set to begin shooting in the latter half of 2019 in Adelaide, Australia.
