Stay frosty boys: The new Mortal Kombat film has found its Sub-Zero in Fast & Furious and The Raid's Joe Taslim

Yes I know he's not technically a ninja, but he's still a ninja

Mortal Kombat's long-awaited return to the big screen is set to begin production starting later this year though it appears as though they've landed themselves their first lead actor role.

Joe Taslim has reportedly signed on to play the blue ninja Sub-Zero in the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, and if you've seen any of his previous action movies, you know he knows how to put up a fight.

The Indonesian actor made his film debut with cult classic The Raid: Redemption as the officer Jaka before landing roles in Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond.

Taslim was once part of Indonesia's national Judo team, and he also reportedly has trained in Wushu and Taekwondo which should lend itself nicely to the realm of Mortal Kombat.

James Wan, the director / producer behind films like Saw, Insidious and Aquaman, is set to produce the upcoming movie adaptation with Simon McQuoid making his major motion picture directorial debut.

While we don't know anything about the plot of the movie, it's almost safe to assume that Scorpion will be featured as well considering it's rare to have one of the OGs without the other present.

Mortal Kombat hasn't been in theaters with a new movie since Annihilation all the way back in 1997, and though the first movie was successful and considered one of the best video game adaptations to this day, its sequel did not share that same fortunate fate.

This year has marked the first time that NetherRealm and Warner Bros. have also referenced the old films in a number of years with Mortal Kombat 11 by having Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprise his role as Shang Tsung with his classic movie look in tact.

Mortal Kombat's latest film venture is scheduled to begin filming in the latter half of 2019 in Adelaide, Australia.
