It hasn't even been a full month since Samurai Shodown has been released, but players are already beginning to break down the options of the game's roster. Although Jmcrofts mentions that it may be too early to create a tier list, he went ahead and did it anyhow.

There needs to be some starting point when it comes to tier discussion, right? Just getting an idea of early impressions can help build the foundation of future tier lists.

Notably, it's Genjuro and Tam Tam that have taken the top spots Jmcrofts' tier list. Not only is Genjuro seen as being very strong, but he's also apparently very easy to play as.

Genjuro has one of the best Dragon Punch type attacks in the game, a Rekka attack, and a projectile that bounces against guards that then retains its hitbox. It also helps that he can easily combo into his weapon flipping technique.

As for Tam Tam, Jmcrofts describes him as a defensive brick wall. Normals like his standing medium are among the best pokes in the entire game.

Tam Tam is also able to control the screen very well thanks to his projectile attacks. As the opponent for Tam Tam, you also shouldn't underestimate his ability to set up tick throws.

Combatants like Shiki and Kyoshiro Senryo did not fare quite as well as Genjuro and Tam Tam. They are found at the very bottom of Jmcrofts' tier list due to a variety of problems.
