'I'm excited at the thought that Street Fighter might not be the main game' - Maximilian on which EVO title should headline the event this year

EVO is a fighting game celebration that features titles from all over our niche genre of gaming, but

Considering the event's history, it feels a bit odd to be entertaining the idea that we very well may have an EVO where a Capcom game is not the headlining title. Considering the state of competitive fighters at this particular moment on the timeline, said idea also makes a lot of sense.

We're less than a month away from EVO 2019 and fans are widely unsure about which of the nine games will be played out last on Sunday evening. Maximilian has seen his fair share of EVOs, and has a few interesting thoughts on this particular matter.

There are actually only four candidates (Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle) as the others are all slated for Saturday finals, but Max still offers some opinions about each of those as well.

There's quite a bit to take into consideration here as things like overall entrant numbers, stream viewership stats from recent majors, and general community hype and attention surely go into tournament organizers' decision-making process.

Despite SF5 being the matter of fact final show every year since its release back in 2016, (the headliner spot went to Street Fighter 4 each of the seven years before that) the game doesn't seem to be shining brightest in any of the aforementioned categories. This is not to say that SF5 isn't thriving and chugging along just fine, but it is to say that its newer competitors are manifesting better numbers across many categories.

Hear what Max has to say about the EVO lineup this year and let us know which points you agree and/or disagree with in the comments. Feel free to share which game you think should be the headliner as well.
