When might Dragon Quest's Hero be released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Let's speculate

79 days of Summer remain

During E3 2019, it was revealed that Dragon Quest's Hero would be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster sometime in Summer 2019 while Banjo-Kazooie will come later in the Fall.

Outside of these details, we really don't know when these two characters will be officially available for the community to download and play. Having said that, there might be clues based on how previous characters and announcements were handled.

First off, it's worth noting that Summer in 2019 began on June 21st and ends on September 23rd. Being that today is July 6th, this means that there are now 79 days where it's possible for the character to be released.

Most fans have probably noticed that whenever a new character is released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the first value of the game's version number increments by one.

When Piranha Plant was patched into the game on January 29, 2019, the version went from 1.X.X to 2.0.0. Likewise, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 2.X.X was changed to 3.0.0 when Joker became playable on April 17, 2019.

So when Dragon Quest's Hero is made into a fighter, it's extremely likely that the game will update to 4.0.0. There's certainly some value in paying attention to SSBU Bot on Twitter as it tends to predict these patches as a result of collecting information from the game's server.

Unfortunately, since Piranha Plant was released on a Tuesday and Joker on Wednesday, we aren't able to narrow down which day of the week Dragon Quest's Hero will come out.

Still, there was a notable occurrence that occurred last year. For the first time ever, Nintendo made an announcement that revealed the existence of an upcoming Smash focused Direct at EVO.

Before this event, it seemed incredibly unlikely that Nintendo would do such a thing since, again, they've never done it before. Funnily enough, they've also previously attempted to prevent Super Smash Bros. Melee from being streamed before seemingly backing down due to fan backlash.

What's also interesting is that this reveal came during the top 8 portion of Melee's bracket. Super Smash Bros. 4 did not receive a "main stage tournament" treatment like Melee did.

Now that Ultimate is the main stage Smash title at EVO this year, it does seem even more likely that Nintendo could have an announcement waiting for us on Sunday. This seems like the perfect opportunity to let everyone know when they can begin playing the Hero.

Seeing as how EVO 2019 will take place from August 2nd to the 4th, my personal prediction is that the Hero will be accessible on the following Tuesday — August 6th.

Although we can't 100% narrow down the day of the week as previously mentioned, Tuesday tends to be a common day in which Nintendo releases new games and content.

As for Banjo-Kazooie and the two remaining characters that are still unnamed, we'll likely not receive any more information on them for quite some time.
