PSA: Using Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's All-star Smash mode may corrupt your game data

Piranha Plant came out seemingly ahead of schedule as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's first DLC character, but he may have brought a very dangerous bug with him that could certainly ruin a day or two.

Some users are reporting that playing as Piranha Plant in the game's All-Star Smash mode can cause the title to crash and the game's data or possibly even save data to become corrupted.

While we have not been able to verify any images or videos confirming this crash, postings indicate that these issues may be tied only to the digital version of the game, but it is still advised to avoid the mode on all versions until Nintendo debunks the situation or puts out an updated patch.

One Gamefaqs user allegedly had their entire game file become corrupted forcing them to re-install the title for trying out the new fighter against the rest of the cast — some are also reporting the crash can occur in Classic Mode as well. Others have stated that it can corrupt the save data as well causing players to lose all of their character unlocks and progress if it was not backed up in the cloud.

All-Star Smash is Ultimate's new take on the previous All-Star modes in the series where you must battle all 70+ fighters featured in the game in one go though no issues have been reported for using classic Mario enemy in the regular Smash modes or online.

There is certainly the possibility that this crashing rumor could be a hoax, but it's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with the chance of potentially losing dozens or hundreds of hours worth of progress.
